A couple weeks ago my pastor spoke at another church in the Atlanta area so our church joined theirs for the day. I had been told beforehand that it had a predominately Indian congregation. This made me all the more excited because of the cultural aspect. They had 2 services going on simultaneously – English & non-English.

I’m not going to lie. I was a bit disappointed when I learned that we wouldn’t be in the non-English speaking service. If you have never witnessed a worship service where you can’t understand one word, well you should find one. It is an amazing and incredible way to experience God.

Being in the service reminded me again how multicultural churches are not. Even if the congregations are multicultural, I have yet to go to a service where the worship is. Usually, each church has its own style they stick to week in and week out. But I can’t wait for the day where different cultures, different language, different styles, different generations will all come together to worship God.

After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice: “Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.” –Revelation 7:9-10
This paints a beautiful picture of how all of mankind will worship God in the future – together. And I feel I get a glimpse of this each time I worship with those who do not speak the same language as me, each time I worship at a church with a different style than I’m used to, each time I embrace diversity in God’s kingdom. Because one day, we will all join together for worship so why not start now?
