I had a friend who came and visited a while back. He brought an FS700 which is a camera known for its slow motion recording capabilities. So while he was here, we made a little video about being stuck inside on a rainy day (it was based on a true story). Since slow motion puts the visual focus on movement, we wanted to play with that. We tried to come up with shots where the direction of movement in one scene led into the next. It kinda worked.

It was my first time shooting in slow motion. After working with the footage in post, I would have done things differently in hindsight because no matter how quickly you make something happen, the actions take longer than you think once you are watching it. Since people’s attention spans are so short, even with slow motion, you can loose any momentum you build in the story and shot if it takes too long. So next time, I would probably try and choose shorter actions and work on my preproduction planning skills a bit more so that all or most of the motions line up!

But the video was fun to make and a great opportunity to play around with the FS700. I also now have some experience working with slow motion which will make the next time easier! I edited the video and Jim color graded, did special effects and picked out the music.
