Leg #8: Vienna, Austria –> Bratislava, Slovakia
Transportation:
Took a 9:45 boat to Bratislava
–Arrived around 11:45
–Cost 20.75€
We splurged on the boat because how often do you get the chance to sail down the Danube? The boat ride was fun and we lucked out. We got their early enough to get seats at the front so we could see out! You could also buy coffee or snacks on the boat if you wanted.
Lodging:
Hostel Blues
–3 Nights
–58.68€/person for 3 nights
Hostel Blues had a cool vibe. It’s a bit of a trek from the port. The hostel is set up with a different city focus on each floor. We stayed in a 5 person dorm. It was full every night. The rooms were definitely not big but they weren’t unbearably small either. They will tell you what food to try and the best places to go and the best things to see in the city.
Food:
Meals – 36.89€
Coffee – 18.65€
Snacks –
Shtoor is the Slovakian Starbucks but better. They have 2 in Bratislava and you definitely need to have a coffee there at least once. Funki Punki was said to be an awesome pancake place. But it’s British pancakes. They are really good but they are crepes. It’s definitely a fun place to eat!
Tourist Things:
Postcards – 3.5€
Bracelets – 10.60€
Walking Tour – 2.5€
We went on a free walking tour and those are always great. You get to learn about the city and tip the guide at the end of the tour. They also had a lot of fun stores with handmade items in them. It was fun just to look at stuff in those stores.
Bratislava Total: 168.14€
Things to do if you find yourself in Bratislava:
1) Take the free walking tour. It’s free and you learn so much cool stuff about the city. There is a lot of fun history here!
2) Go to a Shtoor coffee house. They are kind of like the local Starbucks. They have a large variety of coffee plus desserts & sweets. All the coffee is fairtrade too!
3) Drink Kofula. This drink is only available in the Czech & Slovakia I believe. Some say it tastes like black licorice. I didn’t like it the first time I tried it but I loved it the second time!
4) Visit the castle. You can walk up to the castle though it’s a bit long. But to visit the castle is free. You can get some pretty views of the city.
5) The Smurf Church. Make sure you visit what the locals call the Smurf Church. It’s blue inside & out! It’s free to visit.
6) Hang out by the river front by the Eurovea Mall. This is free though there are cafes & coffee shops along the river.
Check out Bratislava in photos!
Go to Stop #9: Brno, Czech Republic!
