Leg #10: Brno, Czech Republic –> Ostrava, Czech Republic –> Katowice, Poland –> Krakow, Poland

Transportation:
Took tram to bus station
–Cost 16KC
Took Bus to Ostrava
–Cost 180KC
Took train to Katowice & bus to Krakow
–Cost 612KC

We took a chance by going to Ostrava because we hadn’t done much research on it. Turns out the bus station & train station are at opposite ends of the city and no one speaks English. With the help of Google translate & broken English we learned you take tram #8 to the last stop which is the train station. We bought our train tickets in Brno but it may have been cheaper to buy as we went. We got to Katowice and saw a couple trains to Krakow leave before ours finally came. The Krakow train station connects with a mall so the first time we left, we got a little confused.

Things to do if you find yourself in Krakow:
1) Make a daytrip to Auschwitz. Cost: 68zt It was is something you definitely need to mentally prepare yourself for though you will still be overwhelmed when you go. But I think it is definitely something anyone who has the chance to visit should go to Auschwitz. We paid extra for an English speaking tour guide and I think it was well worth it because you learned so much more.

2) Hang out in the main square at night. Cost: free! There are lots of people out & the cafes & restaurants are usually pretty full but there are lots of places to hang out & people watch!

3) Free walking tour. This is a great way (again) to learn about the history of the city. In Poland, you have to be a national to be a tour guide so it’s even cooler to get a national’s view on history!
4) Eat a pierogi. They are a traditional Polish dish and they are delicious!
5) Visit the castle. It’s got some pretty gardens and architecture!
