In Mark 5, you can read about a man named Jairus who had a sick daughter. In fact, she was dying. He had heard of Jesus and knew that he could heal her. So he found Jesus and asked him to come and heal his daughter. Jesus agreed but before they reached the house, someone came and told Jairus it was too late. His daughter had already died.
Sometimes, I feel like I can relate to Jairus. Well not in the father-about-to-lose-a-child sort of way but a on-an-emotional-roller-coaster-ride-with-God sort of way. In life, I find myself holding on by a thread to an idea, passion, goal, etc. It seems that just as it should be coming together, it falls completely apart. It was right there. Within my grasp. I almost had it.
Jairus, I’m sure, felt this way. He had Jesus right there, on the way to heal his daughter. But then the news comes that it’s too late. She is already dead. But that’s just it: it’s never too late with God. Of course Jesus, who would later bring the girl back to life, knew this.
But Jesus overheard them and said to Jairus,
“Don’t be afraid. Just have faith.” // Mark 5:36
Don’t be afraid. Just have faith.
Don’t be afraid of what reality looks like. Just have faith that God knows what he’s doing.
Don’t be afraid that it looks like it’s over. Just have faith that God’s work is just beginning.
Don’t be afraid when you feel there’s nothing left that can go wrong. Just have faith that God never does things wrong, only the right way.
Don’t be afraid that God has forgotten you. Just have faith that God always loves you.
Don’t be afraid when you feel like God is taking too long. Just have faith that God would rather perform miracles than solve problems!
Don’t be afraid when you feel there’s nothing else you can do. Just have faith that this is when God loves to step in when He can take all the glory!
Don’t be afraid. Just have faith.
